Aegis by spyroteknik Aegis by spyroteknik
5670x3425px, painted in psCS2, copyright ImagineFX/Future Publishing

commissioned image for the March issue of ImagineFX, I've done a full 4page tutorial for this in the issue if you're interested (inc full sized psd's of the progress on the dvd), which is on sale from the 23rd Feb in the UK, US and Europe app. 4weeks later (hound your local barnes&noble etc), got an article about me in that issue too :)

25th Oct 06 - the site just went live, and the tutorial for this image is available for download as a PDF from - [link] - (under workshop section, apocalyptic visions)

I don't know how many people are familiar with the stories about the god athena . The Aegis was her absolutely undefeatable defence againt Ares . So the girl inside him is his Aegis right ?

Spot on, not many people have delved into the 'who protects who' thing

You painted my dream...
In the dream i was that guy, but i killed the child sticking the sword in her belly. I was relieved, but feeling guilty at the same time. Fortunately i knew it was necessary. That little castle was there too. After that i went to that city/village to do what i had to do. To meet my destiny. It was a nightmare actually...

Man, you're good...

I read your section in Imagine FX, you've got some absolutley stunning artwork! Do you underpaint a scanned sketch or work completley in photoshop?

cheers, i go straight in with photoshop, i use form rather than lines so there's no base sketch, start with large brushes and find form, then work detail into it, more like oil painting
