self portrait in grey by spyroteknik self portrait in grey by spyroteknik
2604x3579 Painted in PsCS, no reference (mirror for face)

my entry for a contest over at - [link] - brief was, 'yourself as a thunderdome warrior', so, here i am, all kitted up :D

had fun with this one, all my favourite stuff, symmetry, details, mechsuit, wires and shit.
i could go all artsy and talk about the symbolism of an outer shell, or delve into my current mood to highlight things more, but, nahh, just enjoy the pretty picture :), cos life is good

:wow: and :wow: again! I don't know how you do it, but the detail you've put into this work is just beyond belief! Did you actually "hand-draw" the suit? :? If so; you are indeed a very gifted Artist. I applaud your skill and sheer imagination.

I'm sure you could get a job working in the movie biz with the quality of your Artwork. AWESOME! :D

:worship: thanks :D, yep all my stuff is hand drawn, have to stick to freelancing, working for a studio would mean relocation, my kid is settled, as is my wife, but freelancing is good :)

Well I did think you went to Artschool as your work is just so skilled. I still find it unbelievable that can "draw" such detailed and realistic images using a computer. :wow: At least you're working in a job that you obviously love, so I'm very happy for you and the family. :D

That particular image reminded me of those manned and mobile gunnery units in "MATRIX Revolutions"; APVs, I think they were called. Your work is certainly in that kind of class. In fact, I'm sure if someone built one to your specs, it would actually work! :jawdrop: :worship: Amazing Art.

Best wishes,
Yan :)

Impressive, but only nearly i'm afraid - the shading needs a lot of work, it's too symmetrical. Also, exposed wiring and vital components isn't too believable in war technologies. Other than that, fantastic!

very cool! Wonderful detail and the like. The head looks alittle funny to me though, not sure why. Its not the size of it but maybe its the slight texture or the shading, not sure just seems little off. Other than that I think its wonderful :)

That's an amazing piece there. I'm no mech fan, but it isn't hard to appreciate the amount of detail you've invested in this. The grayscale is appropriate and the armor is pretty believable (this is probably the most 'realistic' mech I've ever seen). The composition is exactly what it should be and the textures are well-made. However, there are places that are a little too blurry or out of focus, which kind of messes with the depth. The face is particularly blurry, and doesn't seem to react to the same light source as the shoulder parts. But it hardly mars the effect of the mech as a whole. It's pretty amazing.
